Setting Reminders for Your Pet
Last updated on
Reminders let you set your own notifications for your pet, such as giving a medication, doing sub-Q fluids, or an upcoming vet appointment. When a reminder is due, you’ll get a notification in Hospet and a push notification on your phone if you use the Hospet app.
Where to find it
Open your pet’s page and go to the Reminders tab. Click New Reminder to create one.
Creating a reminder
Title: this is exactly what you’ll see in the notification. Nothing else is added, so include the details you need, like “Give Bella 100mg gabapentin”.
Notes (optional): extra details. These show on the Reminders tab, not in the notification.
Repeat: choose how often the reminder goes off:
- One time: a single reminder on a date and time, like a vet appointment.
- Daily: every day, or every few days (for example, every 3 days), at one or more times. Click Add another time for medications given more than once a day.
- Weekly: on the days you pick, such as Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 6:00 PM. Set Every to 2 for every other week.
- Monthly: on the day of the month you pick, such as the 15th at 12:30 PM, or the Last day of the month. If you pick the 29th, 30th or 31st, the reminder goes off on the last day in shorter months. Set Every to 3 for every three months.
- Every few hours: for example, every 8 hours starting at 8:00 AM.
Active dates (optional): set a Start date and End date to limit when the reminder goes off, for example “three times a day for the next seven days”. These dates don’t change which days it goes off on. A monthly reminder for the 15th with a start date of the 3rd still goes off on the 15th. Leave them blank to start now and keep going until you delete it.
For reminders that repeat every few days, weeks or months, Hospet counts from the first matching day on or after the start date, or from the day you created the reminder if there’s no start date.
Times use the time zone in your Hospet account settings. The form shows which time zone that is.

Who gets the reminder?
- Just me: only you are notified. Other people on your account can’t see it.
- Everyone on this account: everyone with access to your Hospet account is notified.
Members with read-only access can create Just me reminders for themselves, but can’t create or change reminders for everyone.
Pausing, editing and deleting
On the Reminders tab, each reminder shows its schedule and when it will next go off.
- Click the pause button to stop a reminder for now without deleting it. Click play to start it again. Any times that passed while it was paused aren’t sent.
- Click the pencil to edit a reminder, or the trash can to delete it.
Reminders that have reached their end date move to Past Reminders at the bottom of the tab.
Turning on push notifications
To get reminders on your phone, install the Hospet app and allow notifications when asked. If you don’t use the app, you’ll still see reminders in the notifications menu in Hospet.
