Importing Weight History From a CSV
Last updated on
If you already keep track of your pet’s weight somewhere else, like a spreadsheet, a notebook or your vet’s records, you can add it all to Hospet at once instead of entering each weight separately.
Where to find it
Open your pet’s page and go to the Weight Entries tab. Click Import Weights, next to the New Weight button.
If your pet doesn’t have any weights yet, you’ll also find an Import Weights button on the Weight Graph tab.
Step 1: Download the example CSV
In the Import Weights window, click Download the example CSV. Open it in Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets. It looks like this:
| date | weight | unit |
|---|---|---|
| 2025-01-15 | 42.5 | lbs |
| 2025-02-15 | 41.8 | lbs |
| 2025-03-15 | 18.7 | kg |
Step 2: Add your pet’s weights
Replace the example rows with your own, one row per weight entry. Keep the header row (date, weight, unit) as the first row.
- date (required): write dates as
2025-03-14or3/14/2025(month first). - weight (required): a number, such as
42.5. - unit (optional):
lbsorkg. If you leave it blank, Hospet uses the unit you choose when uploading.
Each file can have up to 1,000 rows and must be smaller than 1 MB. If you have more weights than that, split them across a few files and upload them one at a time.
You can have only one weight entry per day. If a date already has a weight entry in Hospet, that row is skipped. It is not added again or overwritten. That means it’s safe to upload the same file twice.
Step 3: Save as a CSV file
Save or export your spreadsheet as a CSV file:
- Excel: File → Save As, then choose CSV UTF-8 (Comma delimited).
- Numbers: File → Export To → CSV.
- Google Sheets: File → Download → Comma Separated Values (.csv).
Step 4: Upload and review
Back in the Import Weights window, choose your CSV file and pick the unit to use for any rows without one. Then click Preview Import.
Before anything is saved, you’ll see:
- the weight entries that are ready to import, and
- any rows that will be skipped, with the line number and the reason (for example, a date that isn’t recognized, a missing weight, or a date that already has an entry).
If everything looks right, click Import. Your weights appear in the Weight Entries list and on the Weight Graph right away. To fix skipped rows, update your file and click Upload a Different File.
Who can import weights?
Anyone who can add weight entries for the pet can import them. Members with read-only access can’t.
