Introduction to Events
Tracking Day-to-Day Changes with Events
The Events feature in Hospet is a premium feature that helps you track the day-to-day moments that matter in your pet’s care — from small routines to concerning symptoms. These details can reveal meaningful patterns over time and offer clarity during an otherwise uncertain stage of life.
Whether you’re logging a seizure, noting a skipped meal, or simply recording a good walk in the park, Events help you capture your pet’s lived experience — one day at a time.

We created this feature to fill a gap we saw in day-to-day tracking. You can learn more about what inspired it and our future plans for this feature in this blog post.
What Are Events?
Events are timestamped entries that let you record specific occurrences in your pet’s daily life. You can think of them as a journal of what’s happening today — with the option to look back later and see how things have changed over time.
Events are perfect for:
- Noting routine care, like tooth brushing, exercise, or bathing
- Tracking symptoms, like vomiting, coughing, or changes in mobility
- Monitoring behavioral shifts, like restlessness or accidents in the house
- Documenting anything else that feels important or out of the ordinary, even if it doesn’t fit into a specific category
Each time you log an event, it’s stored with a date and type, and you’ll be able to view trends across different time ranges: the last 7, 14, 30, or 90 days — as well as all-time totals. This can be especially helpful when tracking things like seizure frequency or skipped meals, where noticing an increase (or decrease) really matters.
Note: Some pet parents use Events to track the presence or absence of a behavior that’s emotionally significant to them (i.e their Signature Traits) — like when their dog stops coming to the door, or their cat stops sleeping in their favorite spot. This can be a gentle way to recognize when the little things start to change.
How to Get Started with Events
There are two main places where you’ll interact with Events: the full journal view, and the Quick Access Panel.
1. The Events Tab (Your Full Journal)
When viewing your pet’s dashboard, you’ll see an Events tab at the bottom of the screen. This is your complete log of all events you’ve recorded.
From here, you can:
- Filter by start and end date
- Filter by event type (predefined or custom)
- Edit or delete any event you’ve logged
This is the best place to review patterns over time and keep your journal organized.
2. The Quick Access Panel (For Faster Logging)
On your pet’s dashboard, in the “About *pet name*” section (next to the Daily Rating block), you’ll find the Quick Access Panel. This lets you quickly log commonly used event types with just a tap.
You can customize which event types appear in this panel by:
- Clicking the pencil icon under your pet’s name to edit their profile
- Navigating to the Events tab
- Adding event types to the Quick Access Panel
- Dragging and dropping to reorder them
This is a great way to streamline your routine if you’re logging things frequently — like daily walks, grooming, or recurring symptoms.
3. Choosing the Right Event Type
Hospet includes over 80 predefined event types — and yes, there’s some overlap. For example, if you give your dog a bath, you could log that as a “Bath” or as “Grooming.” Either option is valid.
There’s no right or wrong choice. We designed the event list this way to give you flexibility — especially in how those events show up visually and emotionally for you. The list is fully searchable, so go with whatever term feels most intuitive in the moment.
When to Use Events vs. Other Hospet Features
Hospet is designed to give you multiple ways to track your pet’s well-being, depending on what you’re noticing. Here’s how Events compare with other features:
Events
Use when something happens on a specific day — good, bad, or routine. Events are great for logging concrete observations like “vomited,” “took a short walk,” or “greeted me at the door.”
Daily Ratings
Use to reflect your pet’s overall condition that day. These are quick snapshots: "Poor," "Neutral," or "Good."
Quality of Life (QOL) Assessments
Use when you want to step back and evaluate your pet’s well-being across multiple areas, like behavior, hygiene, or discomfort.
Annotations
Use to mark big-picture milestones — like “Started new medication” or “Changed diet.” These show up on your graphs and help you understand how events and ratings might connect with major changes.
Each of these features complements the others. Events give you detailed context that makes your Daily Ratings and QOL Assessments more meaningful. Over time, you’ll start to see how these pieces fit together — helping you make more informed, compassionate decisions.
What’s Next?
If you’d like even more control, you can create your own custom event types tailored to your pet. We cover that in a separate article: Custom Event Types – How to Set Up and Use Them.
And if you ever feel unsure about what to log, know this: anything that feels important to you is worth tracking. This tool is here to support your intuition, not replace it.
